Adding images, audio or video is very simple in WordPress and the same method.
There is no right or wring answer on how big an image should be. This very much depends on your web theme and what you want to acheive. Certain guidelines:
- Do Not upload standard Jpegs straight from you camera – they are too big.
- Always use “save for the web” within the photo image software e.g Photoshop. This compresses the image, to minimise loading times.
- Use the photo image software to reduce your image by width or height
To add a single image to a page, first open a page that you wish to insert an image, using the Page menu and then Edit page (or add new page, if it is new).
Place the cursor in the main text body of where the image should go. Then just above the formatting menu is an image menu:
a: Add an image
b: Add a video
c: Add an audio
d: Add a media
To add a jpeg image, click on the image icon (a).This will bring up a separate window to upload the images from the local computer to the website. Click on browse to find the image:
This will bring up a window on the local computer. Go to the directory containing the required image and select the image.
Once the image is selected,click on upload on the Add image page.
Once the image has been uploaded another window is opened which shows the images allows sizing and description to be set.
A: Alternate Text is used by Visual Impaired Browsers. Can also be used by Search Engines.
A: Enter a caption. This will be displayed with the image within the webpage. Leave blank, if no caption is required.
C: Set the Link URL to none. This will ensure if vistors click on your image, they get a flat image. Otherwise a window opens displaying just your image.
D:Choose the location of the image: to the left of content, to the right of the content or in the center. Also the size of the image to be inserted.
Click on Insert into post, to place the image into the page.
