You MUST at least have the role of Chief Editor access to modify the Sidebar.
All items on the Theme’s Sidebar are called Widgets. All widgets are controlled through the Widgets menu with the Appearance Tab on your dashboard.
You can place as many widgets as your theme will allow. They can be all of the same type or different.
POS A: The right hand side of the menu provides all the Widgets available
POS B: Represents the Sidebar and the Widgets currently used.
To Place a new widget onto the sidebar, literally, select the required widget and drag it onto the sidebar.
Text Widget
The most common widget is the Text Widget. All images and text are placed within a text widget. The text widget can only be formatted using HTML code.
Recommendation
1. Create a draft wordpress page
2. Add image and text that you wish to be placed in the sidebar.
3. Format the text and image – headings, text center etc
4. Click on HTML button. Select All and copy the generated HTML code.
5. Paste the code within the Text Widget and Save.
